Derek is an entrepreneur and innovator in the healthcare sector. He is a named inventor of over 32 + patents with commercial success globally. Derek has successfully co-founded a number of European medical device startup companies including Medtech, Advanced Surgical Concepts and Haptica before spinning into the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) in Dublin. Derek while there established a Healthcare Innovation Hub to develop ideas received from clinicians and inventor in Europe and Internationally. His clinical experience and inventions include devices used in general, HALs, NOTES®, laparoscopic, neuro, SILS and bariatric surgery, urology, orthopedics, colonoscopy, cardiology, interventional radiology, Kidney, Liver transplant, gastrointestinal Endoscopy, surgical education and training and other procedures. Derek has spear headed and completed at least 12 Medical Device Exits with key International Healthcare MNC over the last 12 years. A number of these deal were completed with the following companies; Ethicon Endo Surgery(Endopath Dextrus) , Johnston & Johnston(SpaceOR), Covidien(Omniport), Davol CR Bard(MediTract), Applied Medical (Gelport) Olympus healthlthcare(TriPort), TFX Medical(Intromit), Boston Scientific(Retractable Stent) and CA Healthcare (ProMIS) Derek is Founder, CEO and key promoter of i360medical which is a direct spin out of the Healthcare Innovation Hub from and with the support of the RCSI converting to a for- profit commercial model. Derek has partnered and has the direct support of a number of significant figures in the medical device and clinical sector including Enterprise Ireland, Cleveland Clinic, NSLIJ, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital , A*Star Singapore, Synecor Inc., and a number of Hospital groups in Ireland, Central Europe and Australia. Derek has a background in Mechanical Engineering, CEng, Surgical Innovation and Business Development from the Austin Waldron and Dublin Institute of Technology in Ireland.
